Brand New JVC Kw-nt3hdt in Dash Double Din Navigation with N

I bought this Nav receiver after going through a bunch of Magellan products that never could keep a charge. First off the deck is gorgeous with a lot of features. Navigation is good, but it needs a better interface for lane assist. Navigon has the best I have seen with it’s lane assist w/ built in live traffic updates that routed me around traffic in NYC in April that was seamlesss. The HD Traffic for my area has been spotty at best. I had to email the marketing director of HD Total Traffic Network to resolve an issue from their location to get the signal finally. Thanks Amy A!. Now, I think that the receivers in my area are not receiving the signal. Bluetooth audio works good but plays more like a radio station w/ a play function. I would like to see full control over music, so that I don’t have to plug my Iphone in. Bluetooth only connects to one phone at a time and you must change in settings to use someone else’s phone. I would like to see this enabled to be able to use with all in the car. The last thing that I would like to see is better equalization setting that you can download. All in all a good unit, just needs some bugs worked out. Thanks for reading- hope it helps

I recently got this head-unit to replace my broken stock Bose system from my 2002 Acura TL (though the HU may be Pioneer?). I tried to do a thorough comparison of head units, but the most I could do is online research and youtube observations. This JVC unit has lots of great features. I was very tempted to go with the Pioneer model that has built-in Pandora support. But, overall, I am quite happy with the level of functionality for navigation, bluetooth, iPhone support, SD, etc etc. However, one of the most important aspects of a stereo system is how it sounds. Unfortunately this is somewhat qualitative and hard to get an idea from online spec sheets. In this regards I think the JVC falls short. When playing from the SD card or iPhone the audio quality is ok, though it sounds a bit processed. The big problem is from the FM and HD radio tuner. Here the audio quality is rather poor. Even the HD radio is a downgrade from my original stock unit. It sounds flatter and electronic. I’m not an audiophile so I don’t know the proper terminology to use, but it reminds me of the old days of 8-bit sound cards.

I am loving this in dash navigation. It starts up very quickly and is ready to
go after 10-20 seconds. The touch screen is fast and responsive.
The navigation is spot on even in cloudy environments and through tunnels (where
my pioneer failed). The branded POI icons are pretty cool to, makes it easy to
figure out where the next gas station or fast food stop is on a road trip,
without having to do a POI search.
The HD radio and traffic updates in the San Francisco bay area are flawless. I
have it hooked up to my Droid and it works quick with album art. If I am lazy
and don’t want to get the cord out then the bluetooth audio works with the droid
perfectly. Bluetooth phone works great as well.
The detachable face is great especially if you are in a city.
The one thing that has surprised me the most is the sound quality is superior to
the Pioneer I had previously. I am not sure if the EQ is setup better or what,
but it sounds like I have upgraded my speakers with this receiver.
The only knock I have on it is the forward facing USB connection. I would prefer
a rearward facing USB connection as well as the front facing for a cleaner look.

This unit is great and packed with features. The GPS is always spot on and I get free updates for the life of the unit. HD Traffic is a must if you live in a big city or visit one regularly. It’s true that the POI feature is a little skimpy but it can be updated with the JVC POI software you can run on your PC. Excellent sound quality with the factory speakers; it’s a lot louder than the factory unit. Also this works great with my phone. Imports the phone numbers and then remembers them after that.
Two things hold it back from getting 5 stars. The biggest one is that there is only a front side USB port, none in the back. If your iPod or music device supports Bluetooth stereo then you are fine but for the rest of us, you’ll have a bulky cable sticking out the front of it. The other issue is the album art is really jagged due to the low rez display. Not quite a deal breaker but other units in the price range have better displays.
My only other gripe is that music playlists and album art seem to only be supported on Apple devices. I tried putting a bunch of music and a playlist on the SD card and it wouldn’t recognize the playlist nor would it display the album art. Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update. Might also be nice to have hardware transport buttons so I could skip, pause/play songs with tactile feedback instead of having to take my eyes of the road and hit the touchscreen.
Overall very happy with this unit and it should get 5 stars but the display and lack of a rear USB port, hold it back.

This head unit far surpasses anything I have ever owned. The quality that you would expect from JVC is there, and its amazing. I upgraded from a JVC KW-AVX820 with bluetooth adapter. The only thing that I miss is the remote, as it makes it possible to operate the unit while keeping your eyes on the road and the fact that the IPOD interface is on the front, instead of on the back, making it possible to hide the cable in the glove box. Other than that, it was a great investment.
SD / Thumb drive: You can insert a SD card in the back. I have a 16 GB card, with approx. 2500 songs (3/4 full) plugged in the back of the head. This is very nice, and made it possible to forego plugging in my IPOD. The card is indexable by artist / title, and it is very fast to index and load the songs. Virtually no delay at all. There is also a USB and AUX port on the front, making it possible to dock MP3 player, thumb drive, etc. I use a 8GB thumb drive to supplement my SD library. My kids bring their IPODS on trips, and they sync them up bluetooth, which again is very nice.
The bluetooth audio is awesome – no complaints.
The bluetooth phone is very nice. It has an adjustable loudness / muting control to determine how much it mutes the audio during a phone call. It remembers all calls in or out for quick return calls, and it downloads the phone book from the phone that is paired with it.
The navigation is out of this world. the display is google maps, and you can view it in 3D, 2D, or like a normal GPS. It has a phenominal amount of POI’s (points of interests) including everything from rest stops to restaurants, stores to fast food, gas stations, etc… even campgrounds. And once again, the voice directions volume is adjustable in relation to the audio that is playing. you can even look up directions by phone number, or by entries in your phonebook. You can down load a small app from google which allows you to completely plan and save a trip with way points, itinerary, etc…, save to the SD card, plug it in the head unit, and it is instantly available.
The HD radio is nice, although somewhat limited where I live. But in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Wichita, it works amazingly. You can “tag” songs that you like, and then order them from Itunes. It also has local news and traffic updates right on the screen whether it is on the NAV or Music screen. If it detemines that traffic is slow or impeded(example I-25) there is a detour button that pops up and will route you the best way around it. I only used it once, but I was very very impressed!
