Lenovo Y470 and Y570: The Fastest-Booting Windows PCs In the Land [Notebooks]
Lenovo’s Y470 and Y570 have a lot in common with the other second-generation Intel Core PCs storming CES. But not if you’re in a hurry. Then the only thing you’ll notice is that they boot in under 10 seconds. More »

@cinnamonster: Well, if that is the case, there have been many laptops with those characteristics far before the mac. HP’s pro series for one. I think that is discontinued for the Envy line though.
edit: most laptops have black bezels as it offers the best contrast for the screen. Chicklet keys have been around way before the mac.
Also: Silver body? Nearly every laptop in the day had a silver body! ahah

@Liam: well, if they stole it most likely they have to login. to do so, they need the fingerprint. i’m curious of the cases where i want someone to be able to access my system but not my usb ports.

@cinnamonster: Hmm, that doesn’t look much like a macbook.

Four hours! Shit! My laptop only gets 1! And that is if I’m lucky! Of course, I had to have an 18 in. screen and a top-end Core i7 in my laptop.
Running on high performance with maximum brightness.

@Smashbrosboy: I have the Y560 and the battery life isn’t that good either. I use it as a desktop replacement but because its only 15inches I have the ability to take it on the go when I need to. I’m guessing its probably pretty tough to find a laptop bag big enough for a 17 or 18 inch laptop and those big guys can get pretty heavy. I have a smaller sized backpack with a laptop which I can easily fit the Y560 into . The size and performance hits just the right spot for me and I imagine there are others who have a use for it too. These are power hungry machines but they provide a lot of performance.

@davepermen: I have no idea but I wouldn’t want someone to be able to share my files to their friends with their USB flash drives if someone stole my laptop, and fingerprint password in itself is valuable these days.

He said “clinical” … dude, I haven’t been diagnosed yet…

I feel like I haven’t even had my Y560 for that long and here comes the Y570. Guess thats just the way it goes for tech gear but it breaks my heart to know a bigger and better model is coming so (inevitably) soon.

@Liam: what for, exactly?

I always am disappointed with the “starting at” price with no specified specs, since the biggest headline of a 10 second boot seems to require the SSD, which I am guessing will be left out of the base model.

I don’t whether to hate this fact or applaud it, but damnnnnn. Apple is a design genius.

One thing that catches my eye: the fingerprint reader can lock USB ports.

this year’s CES machines are already looking extremely sexy

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the idea of a laptop created to promote computing on the go? This wimpy 4 hour battery life seems to be counter-intuitive.
