If you’re not overly picky about the material you strum your guitar with, you now have the option of turning pretty much anything into a guitar pick. The Pick Punch is a hole punch, sure. A whole punch that wails. More »

@Settings: Printer + laminator + heavy duty lamination pouches = what you said.
Cerasus
Combine it with this, and we have gold

@philibuster: The best pick is the one you have with you. but yes, Tortex is what I use too.
MxPxRobbie
@David Insley: actually I can’t imagine it is too bad – I do this all of the time with scissors and a sharpie, tracing around a pick and even though the edges are sharp when you cut them it either wears down after using it for about 10 minutes or you can just bust out an emory bord and it only takes a second to smooth it.

They should make it so you can design your own sheet of plastic and make holes where you want.

They’re going to sell out of these babies.

@tomservo77: I’m mostly impressed that you named a punch after a violin bow.
ericesque
@theSEAMAS: Exactly!

@Undead Ponies: Do they explode, or are you afraid of being hit by a derailed engine?

A “hole” punch that wails, actually…

I’ve been in spots where I had to actually ask people for pennies or use a beer tab. But yeah…that was the old drunk and high me who didn’t really give much of a flying damn who thought what. Nowadays I don’t break out the Martin or Gibson unless I’m ready to spend about half a day polishing it up after I’m done.

another thing to put on my list of “Why Didn’t I Think of THAT!?”.
theSEAMAS
Tortex is better.
philibuster
@soulsarock: That’s a great idea. And also makes you not feel so bad for losing them under the amp, in the laundry, etc.

@allenrotstein: If you play enough, it will smooth out naturally.

huh, I can think of pretty much EVERY guitar enthusiast who would want this.

@David Insley: Dunlop Jazz IIIs?

Now I know what to do with all those fake “John Doe” credit cards that come with my junkmail!

As someone who plays w/ 1.5+mm jazz picks… this thing is going to have to be pretty tough for it to work for me.
In addition.. the shape of the picks edge is pretty important… picks generally come with rounded edges, while I would assume that these do not.
Maybe this works for you strummers out there, but I just wanted to give my perspective as a technical Metal player….

@FriarNurgle: RUN BITCH! RUN!!!

Genius!

@TomServo: Indeed, how many times have I made a lousy pick out of a cover of margarine! Added to my Christmas’s wish list!

Christmas here I come!

What’s next, turning table/chair legs into drum sticks with a tabletop wood lathe?
wingbatwu
A clever way of recycling old plastic cards.
JohnnyricoMC
Beats putting pennies on train tracks and running like hell.
Undead Ponies
Nice, but can it punch through DIAMONDS?!?!
Great idea, but the edging would be HORRIBLE, and most of the available source materials would not be thickness-appropriate. Although, having a library card guitar pick would be pretty excellent…

They mechanized what I have done with scissors in the past. Well played. (No pun intended.)
TomServo
Great!! I go through picks like crazy and am finicky. I should start making my own.

If you think that is cool, you should see my Violin Bow punch.

“hole punch that wails”
“peace of mind”
Are you all *that* dependent on your spellcheckers? Good grief….

That’s awesome, but I need one that punches little jazz picks.

@WestwoodDenizen: Way to go, Buzz Killington… (good point tho)

Know what I’m getting my dad for Christmas now. Thanks, Giz.

Is Wayne Brady going to have to punch a pick?
FriarNurgle
I dunno.. The edges should be nice, round and smooth (I’m not talking about the pick shape), a puncher will never cut it round… It is a great idea nonetheless..
allenrotstein
Very good, simple idea. Not sure how well this thing would hold up over time, since punching through that much plastic would probably dull it, and punching out something that large would require a pretty good amount of well-distributed force.
Still, great idea.
WestwoodDenizen
I only wish someone could devote some time to genetically make this bird come to life…

Definitely falls into the category of “Why the fuc% didn’t I think of that?!”
Well done.
