Apple is quietly replacing units of the new iPad affected by slow, unreliable wi-fi.

The company’s Applecare support service has been told to replace affected units, according to a leaked internal memo seen by 9to5Mac.

The memo says that Applecare is ‘actively investigating’ problems including an inability to connect to nearby networks and slow speeds.

The memo echoes complaints made by users of the new tablet, who flocked to Apple’s forums to complain about wi-fi speeds.

It instructs Apple staff to ‘Capture’ affected units and return them to engineers for inspection.

The memo seems to concern ‘wi fi only’ models specifically, rather than models with a 3G or 4G phone connection.

Threads about the problem on Apple’s official forums have been read by

‘This is a problem Apple – you need to fix it,’ says one users.

‘I am in a hotel with my laptop and new iPad,’ says one user.

‘The laptop wifi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal.
