@Adam Spano: that’s a fake 5d photo. The original 5d with extra labels.

@NagaJolokia: Yea wide might be nice for people. I do not have anything wider than my 17-50 there. The Tokina 11-16mm F 2.8 is $500 so that could be quite a buy for some looking for wide with an APS camera.

If it’s not Canon L it’s not worth it.

I’ve noticed you are not very fond of zoom lenses.
For photographers with a budget, a zoom lens may be more suitable for the price.
I know, you may get some barrel distortion, vignette or color fringing along with it, but we are talking budget here.

@pexy: Plug worthy, 85 on a crop sensor is really a nice focal length.

@datafox: Agreed , i did notice a lack of wide angle lenses on this article.
NagaJolokia
this article sure is lacking some tamron, tokina and sigma (only one for 4/3?)
I for one really love my tamron 28-75 f2.8, and it was cheaper than most lenses on this list.

Very interresting choices , and wholy agree , but the title should be “The Best Budget PRIME Camera Lenses”

Why the photoshopped 5D mark 1 in the pic?

Canon 70-200 F4L’s (non IS) can be picked up used for as little as $300 bucks, and are outstanding lenses.
They often get overshadowed by the 2.8 and IS versions, but for that price range, the IQ can’t be beat and they’re durable as hell.
m4ximusprim3
These are all prime lenses here. What if you need a good walk around lens?
I’ve got some pretty high end gear, just curious what would be recommended for someone who wanted to zoom on a budget.

Yay for nifty fifty! Let’s not exclude third party lens. Namely Tamron. Any of their lens’ developed within the past year have possibly the best bang-for-your-buck value of any lens. Their VC (vibrataion compensation, aka IS on Canon, VR on Nikon) is THE best in any consumer line, possibly pro as well.
Three I highly recommend.
17-50mm f2.8 VC – 0wn this for Canon 550d. Very sharp, very fast. $649 ($549 w/ rebate)
Newly released 70-300mm f4-5.6 VC USD. VC AND new USD silent ring focus motor. Just got this for myself. Super fast autofocus, sharp across the board. Best 400 bucks I ever spent.
28-75mm f2.8 – Don’t own this, but by many accounts, is just as sharp, if not sharper then Canon L equivelent. Only costs $380.
Between the 17-50mm and the 70-300mm, I have almost every focal range covered.

@Flako_FigZ: I know… I’ve been trying to find a good macro lens for my a700.
WingedGenius
PLEASE, please, please, please, please consider adding in Sony/Minolta! Yes, they’re not super popular brands, but not everyone shoots Canon and Nikon.
WingedGenius
Needs more third party lenses. They are the real budget options imo.
Clashwerk
@Flako_FigZ: Seriously? You should be used to that.

I have found my Nikkor 85mm 1.8 very sharp from 1.8. I took an image of my monitor and I could see the pixels of the screen.
I think some third party lenses should be listed here.
Tamron 17-50mm F 2.8 Di II is a great buy. there was one style on sale for $250 a year ago. I bought mine for 400 used.
Nikon 60mm Micro AF-D can be had for about 300 and I picked up the AF-S model for 400.
For all people the Canon 500D closeup lens can be a great buy for people who want more magnification but do not want to pay for a dedicated macro lens. I got a 72mm sized one for 70 used.
datafox
The 85mm 1.8 is my favorite lens. It’s super sharp, even wide open. I advise anyone to buy this lens if they want to shoot nice portraits. This was shot on a D300 at ISO 640 @ 1.8

Why does that 5D2 look so goofy to me…. did they come out with a redesigned body?
Adam Spano
This is depressing, no Sony.
Oh my poor a330.
