Why Would Anyone Root the Nook Color to Play Angry Birds? [Nook Color]
I love Angry Birds as much as the next person, but I suspect there’s a certain George “because it’s there” Mallory-ism to the Xda-Developers community, which has published its Color root-tute for playing Angry Birds here. [XDA via Engadget] More »

@Decad3nce: wow, that’s a pretty good processor for an e-reader, i’d still like to see benchmarks for this . I know that Paul @ Modaco has rooted the Advent Vega, but this would be an even cheaper option if it can handle running the OS smoothly.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t rooted JUST for Angry Birds…

@Hearthatvoiceagain says Andy has arrived: The processor is the second revision of the TI OMAP processor that is included in the Droid 2. It is more than capable of handling tablet functionality.

Really, buying a Nook Color to get a Tablet is like buying an fancy HP printer just for the tablet that came with it.
ThereĀ“s some real tablet with HDMI output, 10″ capacitive touchscreen (or 7 if you prefer… and cheaper) froyo, and nice processing power from Archos for $300. And you can also install the Kindle app on it.
The only downside is that you would need to wait until December for the US Launch (that is starting about… tomorrow)

@Mike Anderson: Yes, given the hardware is designed for reading books I assume the processor is not going to be blazing fast, while it is cool that this can be done I’m not sure it is worth it.

Why /wouldn’t/ anyone root the Nook Color to play Angry Birds?

Rooting allows /system access. From then on.. anything is possible. If I can get my hands on this in the next month or so, I’m thinking CM6 wouldn’t sound like too bad of an idea.
Full blown tablet.
Decad3nce
exactly. The same 7 inch Galaxy Tab is too expensive for what it does. @ $250 I think it’s definitely worth it. Albeit no GPS

Kat, what reason would have you have for not wanting to add functionality to your tablet? It makes perfect sense to open up the possibilities in order to get a better value out of your cheap android tablet.

I’m assuming this is just a first step. Theoretically, if you can get Angry Birds working on a Nook Color, turning it into a fully-functional $250 Android tablet ain’t far behind, right?

what I wanna know is… does it actually “run” Angry Birds? or more like… “mosey” Angry Birds?
